Weapons vs. Books

Jimmy puts forth his views on weapons: the initial response will evoke huge guffaws but the underlying message just may warrant a second thought. Are you listening Washington?
The world’s problems may seem unsolvable to most of us but Jimmy Tingle has been doing a lot of thinking and maybe has come up with a few solutions that are simple, practical … and will leave you laughing. Tingle’s humor has always been “smart” funny but ever since earning his master’s degree from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government in 2010, he seems to be attacking the current event issues of our day with a little more zeal. That may be why he has launched his Jimmy Tingle for President campaign (The Funniest Campaign in History).
Remember how your favorite teacher in school had a knack for making the classroom fun? The hour in the classroom would pass pretty quickly and often times the talking points from that day’s lesson would be the ones that would stick with you for hours, days, and in some cases, years afterward. Perhaps it was that kind of teacher that taught you how to mull over an issue and eventually reach your own decision after trying to observe things from a slightly different perspective.
Listening to Jimmy Tingle may be a bit like being back in the classroom with your favorite teacher: Tingle has a knack for getting his audience to think about the pressing issues of the day from a different perspective using humor – a tool he is very adept at wielding.
His award-winning documentary Jimmy Tingle’s American Dream is not all just for laughs however --although there are many side-splitting moments to be sure, there are poignant interviews that will give one pause for a moment to reflect upon what’s wrong with our country… and what’s right. See the documentary and hear some of Tingle's stand-up comedy routine Saturday, June 23, 8pm at the Firehouse Center for the Arts. Again, like that favorite teacher, Tingle will make you think about our world and maybe, just maybe, you can come away with a different perspective than when you entered the theater. I am betting you will feel a little bit better about humanity and perhaps even a little hopeful.
